Cooperation of NGOs to be taken for spreading awareness GUNTUR: District Collector B. Ramanjaneyulu instructed the officials of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and Roads & Building Department to install boards with radium stickers warning about accidents at all dangerous spots on the NH-5 and State highways before April 15. This will help in preventing road accidents, thereby saving precious lives. Penal action Addressing a meeting on road safety here on Saturday, Mr. Ramanjaneyulu said a team of Revenue, R&B, Transport and Police Departments would make inspection of the NH-5 and State highways between April 16 and 20 and take penal action against those who failed in discharging their duties. The cooperation of non-government organisations would be taken in spreading awareness on road safety and in implementing them to the extent possible with their help. Encroachment of main roads in Guntur city and other towns would not be tolerated. The condition of vehicles operated by educational institutions would be checked April 25 onwards. Liquor shops Mr. Ramanjaneyulu said liquor shops were not supposed to exist within 200 metres of places of religious worship, hospitals and other public places. Superintendent of Police A. Ravi Chandra said warning boards should be erected at all the places suggested by police department, and violation of rules immediately brought to their notice. Guntur municipal commissioner M.M. Naik, additional Joint Collector Yakub Naik, Deputy Transport Commissioner Raghunath, and RTC Regional Manager Suryachandra Rao took part in the deliberations.
