Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: Handlooms & Textiles Minister P. Shanker Rao has fixed April 15 as the deadline for all agencies, including APCO and primary weavers' cooperative societies, to ensure supply of uniforms and other dresses to inmates of Social Welfare and other hostels and the pupils covered under Rajiv Vidya Mission.
After reviewing the progress of making garments by these agencies with officials here on Saturday, the Minister told reporters that the agencies were instructed to follow stipulations prescribed in respect of design and quality of the cloth with which the garments were to be made. The Minister said while orders worth Rs. 400 crore had been placed with the primary weavers' societies etc to meet the requirements of the nine government departments to benefit weavers' families, a sum of Rs 105 crore out of this would go towards Rajiv Vidya Mission. He said before he took charge, officials placed orders with some agencies without insisting on bank guarantee and he had scrapped all such contracts.
