Registering presence:T. Armstrong Navin, Congress candidate for Virudhunagar Assembly constituency, filing his VIRUDHUNAGAR: A total of 153 candidates have filed their nominations for the seven Assembly constituencies in Virudhunagar district till Saturday, the last day for filing the papers. More than half of the total nominations – 86 – have been filed by independents. Scrutiny of papers will be taken up on March 28 and last date for withdrawal of nominations is March 30. Sivakasi Assembly constituency has received the maximum number of nominations – 27 – while Sattur got the least number of 17 nominations. The number of candidates who had filed their papers in each constituency is: Rajapalayam – 26 including 14 independents; Srivilliputtur 21 (12); Sattur 17 (9); Sivakasi 27 (17); Virudhunagar 22 (8); Aruppukottai 21 (15) and Tiruchuli 19 (11). Bahujan Samaj Party has fielded it candidates in all the seven constituencies. Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has fielded its candidates in six constituencies. All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and Bharatiya Janata Party will contest in five constituencies each. Akila India Nadaalum Makkal Katchi is in the fray in four seats; Indian National Congress, Communist Party of India and Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam in one constituency each. Other parties in the fray are Adi Tamilar Peravai in two constituencies; People's Party of India (Secular), Tamilaga Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam and Jarkhand Mukti Moorcha in three seats each and Tamil Maanila Sivasena and Makkal Viduthalai Katchi in one seat each. T. Armstrong Navin, the Congress candidate for the Virudhunagar Assembly constituency, filed his nomination on Saturday. Rebel A Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) councillor in Sivakasi municipality on Saturday filed his nominations for the Sivakasi Assembly constituency, where the party has fielded, T. Vanaraja, as its official candidate. The councillor of ward 17 is also the party secretary of the ward. He had also sought party ticket to contest from the Sivakasi Assembly segment.
