Shimoga: Lions and tigers at Tyavarekoppa Safari will be shifted to new spacious enclosures shortly, said Chairperson of the Zoo Authority of Karnataka Nanjundaswamy. “Two separate enclosures of 22.5 hectares of land each have been developed for lions and tigers at the safari. It will ensure additional space for the movement of animals,” he told presspersons at Tyavarekoppa on Saturday. Tyavarekoppa Safari had sent a proposal seeking three pairs of Neelgai from the Mysore zoo. Two lions sent to Tyavarekoppa recently were in good health, he said. He said that the animal adoption programme had evoked lukewarm response at Tyavarekoppa Safari. Last year, B.Y. Raghavendra, MP, and Jungle Lodges had adopted a tiger each. The adoption period ended and they would be approached to renew the same, he said. A proposal seeking Rs.1crore to lift water to the safari from the canal of the Upper Tunga Project had been submitted to the Government. The safari was planning to have a new zone for aquatic creatures.
