Medical admission fraud: two held

Coimbatore: The city police have arrested two persons on the charges of cheating a student to the tune of Rs. 5 lakh by promising a medical college seat.

The arrested were: Sivaprakash (33), son of Palanisamy residing at Thaneerpandal Street of Kalveerampalayam and Rajesh (35), son of Rajendran residing at Govindasamy Street of Dharmapuri. Sivaprakash working as an assistant professor in a private college in Hosur.

The charge is that Sivaprakash promised to get Nibin Chris, who had completed his Plus-Two last year, an MBBS admission.

Nibin paid him and Rajesh Rs. 5 lakh on May 15, 2010 at his residence.

They did not get him admission nor did they return the money.

Nibin sought the help of his relative, Ashokan, a resident of Devangur Colony in Edayarpalayam, who in turn, lodged a complaint with City Police Commissioner, C. Sylendra Babu.

A case was registered and a special team was formed under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police N. Kamini (Crime and Traffic). The two were arrested on Friday.

Investigations revealed that the two had cheated many students in this manner.

They had also taken Rs. 18.5 lakh from Sibhi Krishnan, a student from Kanyakumari.

The Police Commissioner said that if anyone came across persons promising to get admissions in colleges for money, they could contact the police on 0422-2300250, 98431-00101.
