Dharma Bhiksham dead
HYDERABAD: Veteran Communist leader Bommagani Dharma Bhiksham died after prolonged illness at a private hospital here on Saturday.
The 89-year-old CPI State council member, an active member of the Telangana armed struggle, was elected to Lok Sabha and was a member of the Assembly for three times. He was born in Suryapet in Nalgonda district 1922.
He organised meetings against the dictatorial attitude of the Nizam in his school days before joining the Communist movement in 1942. He went underground for a couple of years for launching struggle against the Zamindari system and was finally arrested by the Nizam's army.
He was arrested again in 1948 and served sentences in Chanchalguda, Aurangabad and other jails. He contested as MLA from Suryapet, Nakrekal and Nalgonda constituencies before becoming an MP from Nalgonda Lok Sabha seat.
