KOLKATA: Four policemen from whose custody an undertrial had escaped from a train at Patna station this past Thursday were suspended on Saturday for “negligence of duty”. The undertrial, Umesh Prasad, is alleged to be a mastermind of an inter-State bank robbery racket and was taken to Danapur in Bihar for appearance in a court in connection with a bank robbery there. He escaped from custody at Patna station while being brought back to Kolkata by the four police personnel. Kolkata Police Joint Commissioner (Headquarters) Jawed Shamim said that an inquiry panel set up to probe the incident found the four policemen negligent of their duty and decided to suspend them. The undertrial, meanwhile, is still at large with both the West Bengal and Bihar police trying to trace him.
