Thrissur
Thrissur: Alphons Kannanthanam, MLA, who has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) recently and become its national executive member, has said that all Ministers in the Karunakaran Ministry had responsibility in the palmolein corruption case. Addressing an election convention of the BJP at Pudukad, near here, on Sunday, Mr. Kannanthanam said the decision on the deal was taken jointly by the Ministry. “The then Chief Secretary, S. Padmakumar, had a special interest in the deal. Mr. Oommen Chandy also recommended the deal,” Mr. Kannanthanam, who was the Civil Supplies Director during the period, said. “I had informed the higher officials about the irregularities in the deal. Some people, who did not like my interference in the issue, transferred me to New Delhi.” He said he would cooperate with the Vigilance investigation into the case. Mr. Kannanthanam said he had joined the BJP as he had found common ground with the party for development to reach all sections of the people.
