KOLKATA: Oppressive regimes and even a section of the media that stands by the oppressors are involved in campaigns to misrepresent facts and mislead the people – a phenomenon that is ongoing in West Bengal, CPI (M) Secretary Biman Bose said here on Sunday. Mr. Bose released a book “Shei Mithyachar Ajo Cholche” (The Campaign of Lies Continues Today) written by senior CPI (M) leader Rabin Deb. The 50-page book chronicles the “lies” related to several incidents “where the Communists have been wrongly held responsible” in West Bengal. The first copy of the book was handed to Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee. “All oppressive governments have always propagated lies and based on these lies have tried to legitimise their existence. Even today, those who believe in the policy of oppression are continuously speaking lies, providing false facts and creating stories,” Mr. Bose said. Mr. Bose said the youth in the State need to read the book to acquaint themselves with how lies were used in propaganda campaigns in the past and the trend continues to this date.
