Promoters of IT projects suspended work following attacks by local people 14 companies have purchased plots in the habitat PANAJI: Chief Minister Digambar Kamat on Monday that said the State Government would consider providing security to IT companies willing to set up their units in Rajiv Gandhi IT Habitat at Taleigao on the outskirts of the city. The Chief Minister made the statement in the State Legislative Assembly during Question Hour in response to the Opposition's concern that the IT companies were wary of starting work at this park, fearing attack by anti-social elements. The promoters of IT projects in the habitat had to suspend work following attacks by local people after the local ruling Congress MLA opposed the project on various grounds. The Government is trying to revive the project. The Chief Minister stated that 14 companies had purchased plots in the habitat, but none had begun work. Former IT Minister and ruling Congress MLA Dayanand Narvekar criticised the State Government for trying to recover exorbitant levies and fines from the promoters for the delay in opening their units. He pointed out that they had to abandon civil work after attacks by the people who opposed the project. Consequently, it was the Government which decided to suspend the project till the controversy was resolved.
