Khanapur (Belgaum District): Minister for Law and Urban Development S. Suresh Kumar has promised that development works taken up at the Sri Panchamukhi temple and adjoining ghat section on the banks of the Malaprabha will be completed within a year. The Minister on Monday unveiled a stone plaque to mark the commencement of works taken up under the Chief Minister's Small and Medium Town Development Project. Grant sanctioned He said the Government had sanctioned Rs. 4 crore for the works, which included building protection walls on both sides of the river and providing basic amenities in the temple complex. Mr. Kumar claimed that Khanapur taluk, which had remained neglected for so long, had started witnessing development after the Bharatiya Janata Party came to power in the State . He commended the Khanapur Town Panchayat for achieving 95 per cent property tax collection under the Self-Assessment Scheme, 100 per cent collection of weekly market cess and 97 per cent collection of water cess during the last fiscal . Minister for Agriculture and incharge of the district Umesh V. Katti said the Bharatiya Janata Party Government was spending Rs. 10 crore to Rs. 12 crore in each town of the State on development works every year. Anant Kumar Hegde, MP; Prahalad Remani, MLA; and Shobha Sulkar, president of the Khanapur Town Panchayat, were present.
