CPI(M) candidate's nomination kept on hold

Staff Reporter

THENI: Nomination papers of CPI (M) official candidate A. Lazer and party substitute were kept in abeyance by election officials after scrutiny at the Collectorate here on Monday.

The papers of 13 candidates — all substitutes for official candidates of political parties — were rejected. A total of 84 nominations of political candidates and Independents were accepted.

Nomination papers filed by CPI (M) official candidate for Periyakulam (Reserved) constituency, A. Lazer, were kept pending as the community certificate produced by him was objected to by DMK representatives.

Officials said that the genuineness of the certificate had to be verified with Tahsildar, Madurai North.

Since the official candidate's nomination was kept pending, disposal of nomination of C. Velusamy, (CPI-M substitute) was also kept pending. (For the first time, the CPI (M) has fielded its candidate for an Assembly election in Theni district.)

The nomination of A. Kottaippan (Jharkhand Mukthi Morcha) was rejected as only one proposer had signed in the forms, instead of the required 10. As the candidate was nominated by a party recognised in another State, 10 proposers were a must, officials said.

In Andipatti, nomination of S. Vagai Sekar alias Balasundaram, DMK substitute, and T.R.N. Varadarajan, AIADMK substitute, were rejected as the papers of the official candidate Thanga Tamilselvan were accepted.

In Periaykulam, nomination of A. Radhakrishnan (BJP substitute) and A. Mythili (DMK substitute) were rejected.

Papers of S. Ramar (DMK substitute), R.D. Ganesan, (AIADMK substitute) and C. Pandan (BJP substitute) and S Gurusamy (BSP substitute) in Bodinayakkanur were rejected.

In Cumbum, nomination papers of S.P. Murugesan (BJP substitute), C. Jayakumar (DMDK substitute), R. Vasanthan, (DMK substitute) and I. Salethu (IJK substitute) were rejected.
