Kohima: The ongoing stalemate in Nagaland University figured in the State Assembly on Monday with the opposition Congress asking the government about steps to resolve the deadlock in view of frequent strikes by both teachers and students. Higher and Technical Education Minister Shurhozelie said in a reply that the government constituted a Cabinet sub-committee for holding talks with all sides with the aim to end the confrontation between the university authorities and the teaching staff for greater interest of the State, particularly the student community who were suffering the most. However, both the varsity authorities and the Nagaland University Teachers Association (NUTA) were found to be non-responsive to the initiative, the Minister added. He also maintained that a probe by a private body neither comes under the purview of the State Government nor the legislature. Nagaland University is State's lone institution of higher education besides a central university. PTI
