LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has dismissed as “baseless” allegations by some political parties and leaders that the recent Jat agitation in the State was sponsored by her. Speaking on behalf of Ms. Mayawati, Cabinet Secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh told reporters here on Monday that the Chief Minister has clarified that while the Jats in UP have been given reservation in the OBC quota, she supported their demand for reservation in Central Government services. Mr. Singh said the Chief Minister had appealed to the Jats to take up the issue with the Centre in a disciplined manner. She had also appealed to them that there should be no harm to lives and property. The Cabinet Secretary added that effective steps were taken by the State Government following which the blockade at Kafurpur railway station ended. He said in the wake of the Supreme Court order 100 companies of Central forces have been demanded from the Centre.
