HYDERABAD: Leader of the Opposition in the Council Dadi Veerabhadra Rao said that if only the Government had taken serious action against those who disrupted the Governor's address, caused injury to the Council Chairman and attacked Lok Satta MLA Jayaprakash Narayan, things would not have come to such a pass in the Assembly. The TDP leader was speaking on the behaviour of Agriculture Minister Y. S. Vivekananda Reddy, who is leader of the Upper House, in the Assembly on Monday. The incident evoked all-round condemnation from the Opposition members while the TDP demanded his prosecution and dismissal from the Cabinet. Mr. Veerabhadra Rao said the incident had hurt everyone and marred the reputation of both the Houses. He recalled the stiff punishment handed out by the then Assembly Speaker G. Narayana Rao to a non-member entering into the Assembly by awarding him 45 days imprisonment. Unruly scenes The Council witnessed unruly scenes when Opposition members pressed their adjournment notices seeking a debate on their demand for publishing a white paper on irregular land allocations to the industry. TDP members trooped into the well of the House. Separately, the teacher MLCs resorted to a protest by squatting en masse in the well demanding an assurance on teachers' problems forcing the Chairman to adjourn the House for the day. Amid the din, the Government managed to push through five Bills.
