69 candidates in the fray from Kanyakumari district

102 persons file nomination; 33 candidates withdraw

Nagercoil: As many as 69 candidates are in the fray in Kanyakumari district for the six Assembly constituencies – Kanyakumari, Nagercoil, Colachel, Padmanabhapuram, Vilavancode and Killiyur.

According to the sources a total of 16 candidates including N. Suresh Rajan of Dravida Munnerta Kazhagam (DMK), M.R.Gandhi of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), K. T. Pachaimal of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), P. Suresh Anand of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Pon. Vettri Velayudha Perumal of Akhil Bharat Hindu Maha Sabha (ABHMS) were contesting for Kanyakumari Assembly segment.

Twelve candidates including Pon. Radhakrishnan of BJP, S. Suresh of BSP, A. Nanjil Murugesan of AIADMK, R. Mahesh of DMK and R. Suresh of ABHMS were in the fray for the Nagercoil Assembly segment.

Regarding Padmnabhapuram Assembly segment 13 persons including G. Sujith Kumar of BJP, S. Austin of DMDK, Dr. Puspha Leela Alban of DMK, S. Durairaj of ABHMS and Dr. C. Mahadesan of BSP were in election fray.

Independents

Eight candidates from different political parties and independents including A. P. Abu Thahir of BSP, J. G. Prince of Congress party, P. Ramesh of BJP, P. Lawrence of AIADMK, S. M. Anthony Muthu of Communist Party of India (Leninist) and M. Selvaraj of ABHMS are in the field for Colachel Assembly segment.

In Vilavancode Assembly constituency nine candidates including R. Leema Rose of CPI (M), S. Vijayadharani of Congress party, P. Pramod of BSP, R. Jeyaseelan of BJP and K. Venketesan of ABHMS are in the field.

Moreover 11 candidates including T. Chandra Kumar of BJP, K. S. Thayalan of BSP, C. John Jacob of Congress, R. George of AIADMK, P. Babu of Lok Satta party and D. Kumaradoss (independent), the rebel candidate of Congress are in the election fray in Killiyur Assembly segment.

It is to be noted that 102 persons filed their nomination papers in Kanyakumari district and of that 33 candidates including C. John Joseph, the sitting MLA of Vilavancode Assembly segment and the rebel candidate of CPI (M) withdrew his nomination papers to ensure the victory of the official candidate, R. Leema Rose.
