Outrage as bus runs over rider

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: A two-wheeler rider was run over by a BMTC bus on Platform Road here Thursday night.

S. Kundrol, a railway employee, was on his way home after work when the bus knocked him down. He died on the spot even as horror-struck motorists looked on and the bus driver fled, leaving behind his passengers. Soon after the accident, agitated two-wheeler riders and passers-by gathered at the spot and protested against rash BMTC buses and demanded police action against the erring driver. This disrupted traffic on the road and surrounding areas.

Robbed

A man transporting a popular brand of snack on a three-wheeler was robbed by three men at Thannisandra on the outskirts of Bangalore on Thursday.

Rabi Kumar, who owns a food manufacturing unit in Chickballapur, was transporting the snacks worth Rs. 25,000 when the three, posing as Income Tax officials, stopped his vehicle on the pretext of verifying the documents. They then flung chilli powder on him, pulled him from the vehicle, snatched his cellphone and escaped with the vehicle.
