VISAKHAPATNAM: Visakhapatnam Port Sports Council and East Coast Railway Sports Association will clash in the final of 18th The Hindu trophy annual prize money cricket tournament at the Port Stadium, here on Sunday. VPSC beat Metro CC by four wickets with M.S. Deepak Kumar leading the charge. The Railway team scored an eight-wicket win over Vizianagaram D.C.A. after dismissing the rival for a small score at the ACA-VDCA Stadium. Deepak, the fourth batsman in, kept the scoreboard ticking as VPSC chased down a target of 280, while opener V. Abraham (57, 4x4, 2x6) and G. Chiranjeevi (55, 4x4) played important knocks. Port required 33 runs off the last three overs. Deepak picked up 16 runs and Pijush Benerjee slammed a six in the 49th over off off-spinner G.V.S. Prasad to ease the pressure. Deepak sent the first ball of the last over bowled by NJSR Prasad to the fence to seal the victory. K. Naga Gangadhar with two for 31 was the most successful bowler for Metro. Earlier K.S. Bharat (77, 11x4, 1x6) and S. Karnthi Kumar (38) helped Metro score 279 for seven in 50 overs. Ch. Radhakrishna claimed two wickets for VPSC. It was a cakewalk for the experienced Railway team over the Vizianagaram team, packed with young players. Madhusudhan, Kumaraswami and Narendra Kumar restricted Vizianagaram to 68. D. Kashyap was the top-scorer with 20 and Railways reached the target losing two wickets, both claimed by Tapasvi. Madhusudhan scored 19 runs. The final will be played on April 3. The scores: Semifinals: Metro C.C. 279 for seven in 50 overs (K.S. Bharat 77, S. Kranthi Kumar 38) lost to VPSC 280 for six in 49.1 overs (M.S. Deepak Kumar 92 n.o., V. Abraham 57, G. Chiranjeevi 55). Man of the Match: M.S. Deepak Kumar; Vizianagaram 68 in 32 overs (P. Madhusudhana Rao three for 18) lost to East Coast Railway Sports Association 72 for two in 20.1 overs.
