Bidar: Meditation has the power to pull people out of modern-day stress, Shivamurthy Murugha Sharana of Chitradurga Math said here on Friday. He was speaking after inaugurating the Sharana Samskruti Utsav here. He said Basaveshwara and the other Sharanas of the 12th century advocated meditation as a means to attaining peace. The Sharanas popularised the practice of mass meditation. This, they argued, would lead to spiritual uplifting of the individual and lasting peace for mankind, he said. The swami conducted Sahaja Shivayoga classes in the morning. Zilla panchayat president Kushal Patil Gadagi inaugurated the utsav by unfurling the Basava flag. Suryakanth Nagamarapalli, Basavaraj Patil Ashtur, Basavaraj Bharashetty, Shivashankar Tokre, Gurunath Akkanna and others were present.
