Ganesan commends EC

Karunanidhi's criticism compliment for Election Commission

‘State free from flex boards,

posters and graffiti'

THANJAVUR: L. Ganesan, national executive committee member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has commended the Election Commission for its “excellent work,” to ensure that a free and fair Assembly election will be held in Tamil Nadu.

He told reporters here on Friday that the State was free from flex boards, posters, and graffiti. Vehicle checks helped in seizing unaccounted money at different places.

He said that people welcomed the Election Commission's move. But, unfortunately, Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi and his son Alagiri were criticising the EC. The Chief Minister had said that an emergency-like situation prevailed in the State. “In a way, his statement has to be taken as a compliment for the Election Commission.”

'No action'

The Chief Minister had also said that the Centre had implemented whatever the State government had sought. This was not true. The Chief Minister had written letters on Cauvery, Sri Lanka Tamils and many such important issues. But, there had been no tangible action from the Centre.

“We can't say that there are two alliances in Tamil Nadu led by the AIADMK and the DMK. It appears there are only electoral adjustments and not alliances as there is no joint campaign in both alliances,” Mr. Ganesan said. The BJP decided to go it alone as it wanted to provide an alternative to the DMK and the AIADMK. Its national leaders L.K. Advani, Nitin Gadkari, Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaiteley would campaign in Tamil Nadu.
