Punjab, Haryana for enhanced wheat procurement
Chandigarh: With wheat procurement season starting from Saturday, Punjab and Haryana are looking to procure 175 lakh metric tonnes, almost 10 lakh metric tonnes more than what was procured in the last season, on the back of higher output.
However, wheat arrival is set to get delayed by about a week from the commencement of rabi marketing season 2011-12 because of un-ripening of the crop at majority of wheat growing areas in both the States.
“Harvesting of the crop is going to be delayed because the crop is still not ripe in major parts of the State,” a senior of the Punjab Agriculture Department said here.
