PANAJI: Provisional census figures released by the Census authorities confirmed the fears about decline in child sex ratio in Goa. Goa witnesses a decline in the sex ratio for child population in the age group of 0-6 from 938 in 2001 to 920 in 2011, according to the provisional figures of the Census released here on Friday. Growth Population of Goa has risen to 14,57,723 over the last 10 years which is an increase of 8.17 per cent over 2001. This comprises 7,40,711 men and 7,17,012 women. The over all sex ratio, however, stands at 968 in 2011 as against 961 in 2001. The sex ratio for population aged seven and above is 973 which was 964 in 2001. Census officials, however, said in some of the villages of Goa a very favourable sex ratio was witnessed. The census figures reveal a literacy rate of 87.40 per cent which is higher than the national average. The literacy rate of men in the State is 92.81 per cent while for women it is 81.84 per cent. Literacy rate The census figures put the national literacy rate at 74.04 per cent in 2011. The percentage decadal growth of population in the State in 2001-2011 has been counted at 8.17 per cent against national average of 17.64 per cent.
