Minister defends increase in power tariff

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Congress party has defended the recent increase in power tariff claiming that only the high end consumers would be burdened.

At a press conference here on Friday, School Education Minister Sake Sailajanath, Chief Whip Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and MLA Bhikshmaiah Goud claimed that the lower and middle class people would not be burdened. They said the protests against the increase in tariff were meaningless as the parties that are opposing it should realise that the common man would not be affected.

“Is it wrong to increase the tariff for consumers, whose monthly power consumption was more than 300 units?,” Dr. Sailajanath said . He termed the service charge for free power as nominal increase.

He justified the increase in power tariff for farmers who were income tax assesses and those practising corporate farming.
