Staff Reporter
ANANTAPUR: A 10-member CBI team which had been investigating the alleged illegal mining in Karnataka in the past few days, had also been to Bellary on Friday, and reportedly summoned the Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) Managing Director, Sreenivasa Reddy, for questioning.
The CBI team met the Bellary Superintendent of Police and later summoned Mr. Reddy. He had reportedly been taken into custody and whisked away to Hyderabad for interrogation. According to CBI sources, he is likely to be detained until Ugadi.
After the inspection of OMC, the team estimated that illegal mining had taken place to the tune of 2.7 million tonnes. It also reportedly estimated that the illegal mining had caused a loss of Rs. 600 crore to the State exchequer.
