Chennai: Vishnu Vardhan triumphed at the MCC-S.R. Subramaniam Memorial AITA men's tennis tournament with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Vijay Sundar Prashanth in the final on Friday. With 30-all on Vijay Sundar's serve at 4-5, he dunked an overhead into the net to hand Vishnu Vardhan the first break-point of the match, which he duly converted to claim the first set. Games four and five of hte second set saw the best plays of the match, with the games swinging one way and then the other. However, both games went un-broken and it was not until the eighth game of the set that Vishnu Vardhan was able to gain an upper hand. A spate of unforced errors from Vijay Sundar, including a double fault, handed Vishnu Vardhan the crucial break. He proceeded to serve out the match in the subsequent game. Vijay Sundar had some joy in the doubles final when he took the title in partnership with Rajagopalan, with a 4-6, 6-1, 10-8 win over the pair of Vinodh Sridhar and Ajai Selvaraj. S.
