Passing-out parade for constables held

Lieutenant Governor Iqbal Singh distributing prizes at the passing-out parade of constables in Puducherry on Saturday.

PUDUCHERRY: As many as 168 police constables, including five women, passed out after nine months of intense training at the Police Training School, Gorimedu, on Saturday. They were given training in squad, lathi and arms drills, crowd control mechanism, handling of wireless and in subjects such as law, police administration, criminology, Indian Penal Code and Criminal Procedure Code.

Shortly after witnessing an impressive passing-out parade by the new recruits, Lieutenant Governor Iqbal Singh said constabulary formed an important part of policing. Reminding the newly inducted personnel of their responsibilities, he said they should not let their “vision get blurred in the face of pressure or monotony.”

Other who attended the function included Chief Secretary R. Chandramohan, Inspector-General of Police J.K. Sharma, Deputy Inspector-General of Police I.D. Shukla, Senior Superintendent of Police (Law and Order) Atul Katiyar and Senior Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) V.J. Chandran.
