28,000 voters newly included in Erode district

ERODE: Over 28,000 voters have been newly included in the photo electoral rolls in Erode district during the summary revision held recently.

Releasing the supplementary voters' list for the eight Assembly constituencies of the district on Friday, Collector C. Kamaraj said the district now had 15.13 lakh voters, of which 7.63 lakh were male, 7.50 female voters and 50 were from the transgender community.

The Gobichettipalayam Assembly constituency has the largest number in the district with 2.09 lakh voters. Anthiyur assembly segment has the least with 1.74 lakh. Total of number of voters in other constituencies is as follows: Erode East–1.75 lakh, Erode West–1.93lakh, Modakurichi–1.88 lakh, Perundurai–1.78 lakh, Bhavani–1.96 lakh, and Bhavanisagar–1.99 lakh.

Women voters outnumber their counterparts in Erode East and Modakurichi segments. The Collector said the steps had been taken up to finish the distribution of booth slips to the voters including the newly included ones well in advance. Those who were yet to receive the booth slips can approach the respective taluk offices to receive the same. The administration had also decided to carry out the randomisation of electronic voting machines on April 2. The EVMs would be stored in eight places in the district after the randomisation process. Armed personnel would guard these places round the clock, the Collector said.

The administration had also handed over the final list of polling booths to the representatives of political parties on Friday.

According to the final list, a total of 23 booths had been shifted and a new polling booth was established on instructions from the Election Commission of India.
