MYSORE: The Orissa Association Mysore (OAM) will celebrate Utkal Divas with a slew of cultural programmes, including an Odissi dance festival, at the Jaganmohan Palace on Sunday. The celebrations are significant as the State was recently renamed Odisha. The OAM's major activities include establishment of an Odissi Dance Academy here, which would provide an opportunity for people here to learn and appreciate this classical dance form. As part of the Odissi dance festival, students of the Odissi Dance Academy will present Santakaram Bhujanga Sayanam, in praise of Lord Vishnu. Nupur, a famous Odissi dance institution based in Bhubaneswar, will participate in the dance festival. Members of the institution will present dance programmes and dramas such as Devi Vandana, Lalita Labangalata from Jayadev's Gita Govinda and Madhu Basanta from the epic Dharashree Radha. Nupur will also present two folk dances of Odisha — Sambalpuri and Danda Nata. The programme commences at 6.30 p.m. For details, call Dilip K. Misra, president, OAM, on 9448354400 or 2518427.
