Poll officials told to keep vigil on sensitive booths

PERAMBALUR: Election officials should tighten vigil on the sensitive booths as part of their responsibility in ensuring free and fair election, said election observer (general) Chander Shekar Talwar.

Addressing zonal officials at a training programme held here on Friday, Mr. Talwar said that the officials should, while obtaining the map for their zones, ascertain the location of sensitive booths in their jurisdiction. He asked them to be fully aware of the operation of the electronic voting machines and be prepared for taking immediate remedial action in case of any technical snag. He advised the officials to ensure that basic amenities especially drinking water, toilet and power supply were available at the booths.

Zonal officials, in the presence of polling agents of political parties and independents, should also ensure that the EVMs were in tact by test performance. The percentage of polling should also be reported every two hours.

The police observer Rajkumar Dewangan said that the paramilitary personnel would be deployed at 221 polling stations in Perambalur and Kunnam Assembly segments.

He advised the zonal officials to be aware of the mobile phone numbers of the police personnel.

Collector and District election officer, M. Vijayakumar, said that a total of 2,597 officials would be deployed for election duty.

The district accounted for a total of 51 zones – 25 zones in Perambalur Assembly segment and 26 in Ariyalur Assembly segment Rupesh Kumar Meena, Superintendent of Police; M.A. Subramanian, District Revenue Officer were present.

D. Manoj Kumar, election expenditure observer for Peravurani Assembly constituency checked the expenses of the candidates at Peravurani taluk office on Saturday.

Agents (general) and officials (expenses) of the respective candidates presented the accounts to the observer. Mr. Manoj Kumar said a re-check will be done on April 4 and April 6 at Peravurani taluk office. Chandrasekar, assistant election expenditure observer, Ravikumar, retuning officer for Peravurani Assembly constituency were present .
