A medium of expression for amateur film-makers

HYDERABAD: For all those students willing to dabble in the art of film-making without actually going to a film school, Yellow Studio Works (YSW) in Banjara Hills, might well provide a perfect opportunity to show their creativity.

Three engineering students Faiz Rai, Jawad Ali and Umair Hasan started YSW to help people who are passionate about film making to produce movies. The novelty is that for every project, they form work groups which comprise mostly of students in all age groups and from different faculty too.

“None of us at the YSW ever stepped into a film school for formal training. We have total freedom in trying out things in our own way and in involving everyone in the making of these short-films,” says Harita Singh, daughter of former Hyderabad cricketer Kanwaljit Singh.

The YSW has already produced three short films titled - ‘3 Weeks', ‘BRB' and ‘Samosas & Bannerjee'. These short films did indeed have some mistakes in production, but experienced critics have much appreciated the efforts of the students, says Harita Singh.

Spurred by the encouraging response to the short films, YSW had selected 140 students through an open audition. Later they selected 45 students for the next film project based on a social theme. None of these 45 selected people have attended any film school, Harita points out.

The three short films produced by the YSW will be screened for public viewing in Prasad Labs on Sunday from 2 p.m
