Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police on Sunday claimed to have recovered a truck-load of illicit liquor in Kulgam district, which is scheduled to go for its first phase Panchayat polls later this month. A special team intercepted a truck at Qaimoh in Kulgam last night and recovered 3,816 bottles of two brands of whisky from the vehicle, a police spokesman said. Qaimoh block of Kulgam is scheduled to go for Panchayat polls on April 13. Terming the seizure as a “major success” in its drive against narcotic smugglers, drug peddlers and bootleggers, the spokesman said the truck driver sped away on seeing police and after stopping the vehicle at a distance managed to escape. - PTI
