The land lying between the campus of the Indian Institute of Technology at Guindy and the Buckingham Canal, some 600 to 700 acres, would be taken over by the Government of Madras, so that the same could be made available for any further expansion of the institute in the future or for any other like institution, announced by Mr. C. Subramaniam, State Minister for Finance and Education, on the occasion of the celebration of the Institute Day on April 4.
