Incredible variety of exhibits at fair

Innovative:A handicraft made of seashell catches a visitor's fancy at the ongoing Rajasthan Craft Fair in Kozhikode.

Kozhikode: The Rajasthan Craft Fair that began at Jaya Auditorium a couple of days ago is quite different from those of its kind for the sheer variety and novelty of the exhibits.

Organised by the Rajasthan Hastkala Samiti, the fair features a heritage collection of handloom products, handcrafted jewellery and handicrafts from across the country.

The handloom section of the fair consists of a variety of cotton and silk printed saris with traditional hand embroidery or works; unstitched materials and blouse pieces of a similar make; bandhni and batik print materials; traditional heavily worked dress items of Rajasthan such as lachas, blouses and children's wear; readymade tops, kurtas and shirts for men; and furnishings such as sofa cover and bed sheets.

The jewellery section has quite a few surprises such as the Meenakaari bangles and pendant-earring sets, stone anklets, 99 per cent traditional silver jewellery, Jaipur bangles, lac bangles, Hyderabad pearls and one-gram antique jewellery. The handicrafts include the Channapatna toys, palm paintings from Odisha, silk painting from Rajasthan, lamp shades, handmade furniture, black-and-white metal idols, dry flowers and appliqué work.

The fair was inaugurated by city Mayor A.K. Premajam.
