The district has six Assembly constituencies with 1,238 booths. About 187 machines kept in reserve PUDUKOTTAI: A total of 1,425 electronic voting machines (EVM) were selected on Monday on randomisation method using computer for 1,238 booths in the six Assembly constituencies in the district. Collector, A. Suganthi, handed over the EVMs to the Returning Officers in the presence of the Election Observers K. V. Ramana, Rajesh Kumar Singh, Nipun Vinayak and Revathy Charan . In a press release issued here later, the Collector said that 191 EVMs had been allotted to the Gandarvakottai (Res) constituency; 199 for Viralimalai; 198 for Pudukottai; 219 for Tirumayam; 211 for Alankudi and 220 for Aranthangi constituency. As a stand-in arrangement, 187 EVMs had been despatched to these constituencies. The reserve EVMs would be utilised in case of any technical snag during the course of election, she said. G.S. Ramadoss, District Revenue Officer and N. Jeevakani, Special District Revenue Officer (Land Acquisition) were among those who were present at the time of selection. Karaikal Electronic voting machines were set up in the presence of the representative of the contesting candidates here in the presence of District election officer and Collector Franklin Laltin Kuhma on Monday. The district would go to poll with 151 polling booths and 168 EVMs (including 17 reserve EVMs). These ballot units were fixed with the names and the symbols of the candidates contesting in the five Assembly constituencies in the presence of their representatives and the BUs were sealed. Earlier, a mock poll was conducted on the occassion. General observer U.K.Bhattacharya; Returning officers and assistant returning officers were present.
