New Delhi: With the Andhra Pradesh Government suggesting three names for being considered for appointment to inspect the Polavaram dam to ascertain whether its construction was being carried out in line with the terms of the Godavari Tribunal Award, the Supreme Court on Monday asked the parties to arrive at a consensus on a common name so that appropriate orders could be passed. A Bench of Justice Mukundakam Sharma and Justice Anil R. Dave asked Additional Solicitor General Harin P. Raval and other counsel to take instructions and inform the court on April 11. Independent expert The Bench was hearing an application filed by the Orissa Government in its suit seeking stay of operation of the approval granted by the Ministry of Environment and Forests to Polavaram project and for a direction to maintain status quo in its execution. During the last hearing, Orissa said it was agreeable to an independent expert being appointed to inspect the dam. On Monday, on behalf of Andhra Pradesh, three names--Z. Hasan, M. Gopalakrishnan and B.S. Ahuja--all former chairmen of the CWC, were suggested requesting the court to consider anyone person for being appointed for the inspection. When Mr. Raval and others sought time to take instructions, the Bench posted the matter for hearing to April 11.
