Says VS should not have contested polls again Accuses him of enacting drama to fool the people SHORANUR (PALAKKAD): Congress Working Committee member and Defence Minister A.K. Antony has said that “Kerala should have a new government that should work in tandem with the Central government so that the State can get large number of projects for all-round development”. At an election campaign of the United Democratic Front (UDF) at Shoranur in the district on Monday, he said “Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan had wasted the last five years of his term fighting with his party State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan and complaining to the Central leadership of his party about the State party not allowing him to implement various schemes”. “In this situation, he should not have contested the Assembly election again seeking another term. Since he is contesting, he should make it clear whether he had got any assurance that the State party secretary, who allegedly prevented him from implementing schemes for good governance, will be removed if he becomes the Chief Minister.” Mr. Antony said “this is a drama the Chief Minister is enacting to fool the people. Now, with his contesting the election again, he wants to enact the second part of the old drama. But the people will not allow the second drama as they are already fed up with the ongoing drama of blaming the State party leadership for his failure to bring good governance and development in the State”. “So the people of the State will give a big mandate to the Congress and the UDF as there is a strong wind blowing in favour of them,” he said. Mr.Antony said he was here to hold discussions with district Congress leaders on the discontent in the party on denial of seats to some of them in the polls. He said he held discussions with them and understood their hurt feelings and appealed them to forget and forgive the unfortunate situation and work for the victory of the UDF candidates. Earlier in the morning, Mr. Antony held discussions at the Shoranur PWD Guesthouse with the district leaders of the Congress - District Congress Committee president C.V. Balachandran, KPCC executive committee member A.V. Gopinath, KPCC secretary P.J. Paulose and V.S. Vijayaraghavan, former MP. Mr. Antony said their complaints would be addressed and all of them had agreed to work for the success of the Congress and the UDF. Mr. Antony covered the 12 Assembly constituencies by addressing one election meeting in each segment.
