T3 awarded for eco-friendly features

NEW DELHI: Terminal-3 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport here has been conferred the “Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design New Construction” gold rating by the Indian Green Building Congress for green buildings.

The IGBC is the local chapter of U.S. Green Building Council.

A gold rating was awarded to T3 on the basis of its features with regard to sustainability, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, material and resources, indoor environmental quality and innovation in design.

Delhi International Airport Limited chief executive officer I. Prabhakara Rao said in a statement that in contrast to the traditional master planning process, DIAL adopted a proactive approach towards environment friendliness and the focus of the design team was on promoting energy efficiency and improving environmental quality. Emphasis has also been placed on rainwater harvesting.
