Quake jolts north India

NEW DELHI: A “moderate” 5.7 magnitude earthquake, with its epicentre on the India-Nepal border, jolted north India on Monday evening.

The Met Department officials said the tremors, which occurred at two minutes past 5 p.m., were felt for about three seconds. According to the United States Geological Survey website, the epicentre was 130 km from Haldwani in Uttarakhand and 93 km from Mahendranagar in Nepal.

Besides Delhi and its suburbs, tremors were felt in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh.
