KOCHI: Gokuldas is a lot more relaxed these days when he leaves for office in the morning. Gone are the days when he had to run behind private buses, which often did not stop at the bus stops and seemed more concerned about the rival buses tailing them than on the safe picking and dropping of passengers. K.P. Gokuldas, working with the Water Resources department at the district collectorate, is among an increasing lot of daily commuters who are beginning to embrace the Thiru-Kochi services of KSRTC over private buses. “Now I don't care how long I have to wait and how many private buses pass before a Thiru-Kochi service comes,” he says about his increasing affinity towards the KSRTC services. Hailing from Murikkumpadam in Vypeen, he has welcomed the recent introduction of 20 Thiru-Kochi services linking the Goshree Islands and the city. Sily Sanjay, working with UAE Exchange in the city, believes that there are many reasons for people's increased preference for Thiru-Kochi services. “We, especially women, prefer safe and peaceful journey. Thiru-Kochi services ensure that as there is no mad race prevalent among private buses. Besides, the nuisance caused by the continuance ringing of bell by the door checkers is also not there,” she says. Parvathy S., a law college student, praises what she regards as the ‘decent behaviour' of employees of Thiru-Kochi services. Anoop M. Krishnan, who works for the Third Wave Business Systems at Infopark, says KSRTC's low floor AC buses, are gaining in popularity by the day among IT employees.
