It gets better:The authorities plan to develop MYSORE: The district administration has announced that 10 lakes in the region would be revived and developed at a cost of Rs. 24.42 crore. A release said Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta had directed officials to take steps for revival and restoration of the lakes. The work included removal of weeds from Dalvoy lake and development of its command area and strengthening the lake bund at a cost of Rs. 2.17 crore. Malalwadikere will be restored at a cost of Rs. 3 crore, while Lingabudhikere will be developed by the Forest Department for which Rs. 50 lakh had already been earmarked. Afforestation will be taken up along the shoreline of Lingabudhikere, which will also be fenced at a cost of Rs. 60 lakh. De-weeding and restoration will cost an additional Rs. 2 crore. Bogadi lake will be taken up for restoration and the main work included de-weeding, which will be carried out by the Mysore City Corporation. Hinkal lake will be revived at a cost of Rs. 1 crore. Some of the other lakes identified for revival, restoration and development included Hebbal lake, Devanoor lake and Kukkarahalli lake. The authorities plan to develop a botanical garden at Kukkarahalli lake, situated in the heart of the city. The total cost of improving this lake will be around Rs. 5 crore.
