CHENNAI: The Korukkupet police on Tuesday arrested two women on charges of stealing gold jewellery of customers in beauty parlours. According to police sources, the owner of a beauty parlour on Tiruvottiyur High Road alerted the Korukkupet police that one Jhansi Rani (24) of Perambur who was involved in theft of jewellery from customers had come to her shop seeking a job. Sensing trouble, the suspect tried to escape from the scene. However, owners of other beauty parlours arrived there and apprehended her. She was handed over to the police. Police interrogated Rani and her friend Jeniffer (19) who confessed to having stolen gold jewellery from women visiting beauty parlours. Their modus operandi was to join a one-day training programme in beauty parlous. At the opportune time, the accused persons would steal the valuables of customers and escape. “We have recovered three sovereigns of gold jewellery from them. Rani and Jeniffer were involved in six thefts. They were produced in a city court and remanded to judicial custody,” a police official said.
