Chetana Kumble gets custody of daughter

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: A Bangalore family court on Thursday allowed Chetana Kumble, wife of the former cricketer Anil Kumble, the custody of Aaruni, her daughter from her first marriage.

Principal Family Court Judge M.G. Sudheendra rejected the application by Ms. Kumble's ex-husband Kumar Jahgirdar, seeking permanent custody of his daughter.

The Supreme Court had earlier given Mr. Jahgirdar visitation rights on weekends. When Mr. Jahgirdar remarried, he filed a petition before family court saying Aaruni needed his guidance in her career. Thursday's order means Aaruni will now stay with her mother and stepfather, Mr. Kumble, while Mr. Jahgirdar will have visitation rights once a week.
