Vijayawada
The earlier record stands at 30 feet set in Mumbai in 2006 There is no limit on the number of people who can participate and the time limit VIJAYAWADA: Only one chance will be given to make the longest dosa to break the Guinness World Record, said adjudicator Elizabeth Smith. Ms Smith, who flew down here from London, the headquarters of the Guinness World Records, to witness the making of the longest dosa in an attempt to establish a new world record said that she had visited the place where the dosa would be made and was satisfied with the arrangements. She said that the Vijayawada Hotel Owners' Association as part of its Golden Jubilee Celebration was attempting to break the old record by making a dosa that is longer than 9.14 metres (30 feet) achieved by Sankalp chain of restaurants at Mumbai in 2006. An attempt was being made to break the old record after a gap of five years. She said that the dosa should be made using the traditional ingredients. But, the two ingredients that should be used without fail were rice and lentils. Other ingredients to be used had to be disclosed in advance for approval. The Hotel Owner Association's request to use potato had been granted, she said. Only one attempt was allowed to break the record, but under special circumstances a second attempt would be allowed. A decision on the second attempt would be taken on the spot. Ms Smith said that she was empowered to announce the new record on the spot and that she had even brought a certificate to that effect. She would, however, make the announcement after consulting with the Guinness World Record headquarters. She said there was no limit on the number of people who can participate and the time. An optimum number would be better she said and quoted the old adage “Too many cooks spoil the broth”. Asked if an attempt to break a second record would be allowed Ms Smith said an affirmative ‘No'. Hotel Owners' Association secretary K. Pattabhi Ram said that 30 people had been practising for the event. President M. Murali Krishna said that he was proud that an attempt to break the record of longest dosa, a South Indian item, was being made in Vijayawada.
