Petitions galore at grievance meet

Staff Correspondent

FLOOD OF COMPLAINTS:Revenue Minister

BELLARY: Kalamma, a senior citizen, on Friday urged Revenue Minister G. Karunakara Reddy to sanction old-age pension to her while another woman sought pension for her physically challenged son.

The two women told the Minister that there was no response to the several representations they had submitted to the concerned authorities. “I have been running from pillar to post to get the old-age pension. Please get me the pension at least now,” Ms. Kalamma appealed to the Minister.

The two women were among about 90 persons who had participated in the first-ever public grievance meeting convened by Mr. Reddy here. A majority of the petitions submitted at the meeting related to non-receipt of title deeds, widow pension, Bhagyalakshmi bonds, sketch of the land, crop insurance, allotment of Ashraya houses and regularisation of unauthorised constructions.

A few farmers from Vaddu, Bailuvadigeri and surrounding villages urged the Government not to allot any land to JSW Steel for its expansion project or the proposed unit of Bhushan Steel.

A group of people from Venkatagiri in Sandur taluk sought revenue tag to their village, which had not been granted so far.

Mr. Reddy instructed the officials of the concerned departments to address the problems immediately. “All the petitions should be cleared within a week or a fortnight, depending on the nature of the grievances,” he said.
