SHIMLA: The Himachal Pradesh Government on Friday announced plans to introduce fresh legislation to confiscate property acquired through illegal means. Declaring this on the last day of the budget session, Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said the Bill would be brought in the monsoon session of the Assembly. The Chief Minister said the current movement against corruption led by Anna Hazare was an eye-opener for the people. The issue should not be politicised as the country was becoming one of the most corrupt in the world, he added. Mr. Dhumal said the existing laws were insufficient for dealing with corrupt practices and confiscating illegal properties. He said issues like 2G Spectrum scam, Commonwealth Games scandal, Adarsh Society and black money deposited in foreign banks were disturbing the entire nation. There is a complete loss of credibility of political, administrative and business institutions in the eyes of the common man, he added. Opposition members led by Vidya Stokes did not oppose the proposed legislation, but took exception to the mention of UPA-related scams alone to the exclusion of scandals during NDA Government.
