Held on extortion charge

VISAKHAPATNAM: A man who allegedly indulged in extortion was arrested and sent for remand on Friday.

According to the police, G. Padma and her aged parents let out the ground floor of their house – under Two Town limits -- to Nelabaludu.

Nelabaludu allegedly ran a brothel on the ground floor. Taking advantage of the situation, Padma's relative P. Srinivasa Rao approached her and took Rs.2 lakh from her on the plea that it would be utilised to enable her father to come out of a case registered against him.

Padma, who grew suspicious, lodged a complaint with the police on Thursday. A case was booked against the accused under Sections 384 and 420 of IPC and the accused was arrested. The Two Town Police are investigating.
