DMK activist hacked to death

Staff Reporter

TIRUNELVELI: A Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam activist was hacked to death at Alangulam on Thursday night.

Police said that a group of DMK cadres from Tuticorin district, who had come to Alangulam for the election campaign of party candidate for Alangulam constituency and Information Technology Minister, Poongothai Aladi Aruna, were staying at the Aladi Aruna College of Nursing.

After the end of the day's electioneering, they returned to the college for dinner around 11 p.m. An altercation broke out among the cadres who were sitting on the terrace of one of the college buildings. A. Baburaj (35) of Tuticorin was hacked to death by his acquaintances, allegedly in an inebriated condition.

The body was removed from the spot on Friday morning and taken to an undisclosed destination. “Since Baburaj was murdered by his acquaintances belonging to different communities, the body was not taken to the hospital directly for post-mortem. After ensuring normality, it was taken to the hospital,” explained a police officer.
