Move follows complaints from residents of areas newly added to BBMP 34 contractors are entrusted with maintenance of 3,200 borewells in the erstwhile CMC areas Bangalore: Following a slew of complaints from residents of areas newly added to the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) that most borewells in their localities had become defunct and were of no use, BWSSB chairperson P.B. Ramamurthy on Thursday directed all borewell maintenance contractors to attend to such complaints on priority and set right the problem within 48 hours. At a meeting with the 34 contractors entrusted with the maintenance of 3,200 borewells in the erstwhile city municipal council (CMC) areas, Mr. Ramamurthy warned them that they would be blacklisted if they did not attend to complaints immediately. All complaints, including energising defunct borewells and replacement of old submersible motors, should be attended to within 48 hours. And, if they cannot do it for a valid reason, the contractors should convey this to the BWSSB engineers who will immediately attend to the problem. Mr. Ramamurthy directed the 26 special officials entrusted with monitoring water supply and valve operations to oversee borewell maintenance in their jurisdiction, and discuss the problems with residents and elected representatives and get them solved. All required equipment, including additional motors for the borewells, would be stocked at the BWSSB stores, he added.
