CHENNAI: Defending champion Chennai Customs edged out Arrows FC 2-1 in a St. Joseph's-Chennai Football Association senior division league match here on Saturday. The victory, especially against a dangerous opponent, must have not only enhanced Customs confidence levels but also kept its title hopes alive. All the three goals came in the first 20-odd minutes. A wonderful through pass from the right by Customs' Bharathiraja saw M. David nicely intercepting it and striking hard into the post. Arrows equalised soon when Samuel Jackson used his power and sense of angle, making good use of a neat pass from Jaffer. A callous Arrows defence ensured Customs score the winning goal. M. Ramesh headed one past two hapless defenders. It was a soft goal, thanks to a pathetic defence that didn't take any step to clear the ball which came off a throw-in from the right. Customs defender K. Satish was adjudged the Man-of-the-Match. After seven matches, Customs' points tally is at 15 while Arrows has nine points from eight. In a first division contest, RPF defeated Motherland 4-2. Binoy, Md. Illias, Amjith Basheer and Manu scored for RPF while Krishnamurthy and Joy converted for Motherland. — Special Correspondent
