Rangasamy promises transparent rule

Staff Reporter

PUDUCHERRY: The government at the Centre will not be partial if All India N.R. Congress (AINRC) comes to power as it has always supported all State governments. This was reflected in the fact that the States and Union Territories currently under the rule of opposition parties have also witnessed development, former Chief Minister and AINRC president N. Rangasamy said here on Sunday.

Speaking to reporters after releasing the manifesto of his party for the Assembly elections, Mr. Rangasamy said the accusation by some persons that he had failed to get funds from the Centre during his tenure as Chief Minister was not right and that people were happy as all schemes were implemented.

“The benefits of the schemes that I started during my tenure are being reaped by the people today. The government after my tenure did not announce any new scheme in the last two years,” he said.

He said that the aim of the party was to provide an efficient, honest and transparent government that would develop the economy and living standards in the Union Territory.

The party would fight for the rights of all sections of society and initiate schemes that would protect the interests of the marginalised.

If voted to power, the party would ensure free education for all students in government colleges and ensure availability of funds for those who pursue their study in private institutions. All ration card holders will be provided with a washing machine. Students pursuing Class X in government schools will be provided free computers whereas those pursuing engineering and medical courses will be given free laptops.

Pointing out that the weaving industry in Puducherry had been devastated in the last two years, he said that measures to modernise all major spinning mills would be undertaken to give a boost to the profession.

Mr. Rangasamy said an IT park and a Special Economic Zone would be developed to create employment opportunities for graduates and tourism sector would be prioritised to attract more tourists.
